Kinesio Tape is stretchy and waterproof without sticking to your skin. It helps to restrict movement and provide support to the injured area as well as deloading the joint. Kinesio Taping can be used for ankles, knees, shoulders, wrists, hamstrings and more.
Kinesio Taping or injury strapping is part of my Sports and Remedial Massage service, book online or give me a call if you need it for game day or a competition.
Kinesiology taping (“taping”) is an increasingly popular therapeutic technique used to treat athletic injuries and other physical disorders. It is designed to provide support to the muscles and joints and assist with the body’s natural healing process. Taping involves a physiotherapist placing strips of special tape in a certain pattern on the body to improve joint and muscle mobility and provide support.
Using a unique tape that mimics the thickness and elasticity of skin, kinesiology taping differs from traditional taping methods. Unlike rigid tape, kinesiology taping offers the wearer a full range of motion and minimal constriction. Kinesiology tape can be left on for 4-5 days at a time and can be worn during all types of exercise, even swimming. The nature of the tape means that the therapeutic benefits accrue for the duration that it is worn.
Kinesio Taping or Sports Taping is good for:
The benefits of kinesiology taping are obtained from it working in a number of ways. Firstly, kinesiology tape offers dynamic structural or muscle support. Done correctly, taping improves the way the muscle contracts and assists in stopping the muscle from over-extending and may prevent injuries from occurring.
Kinesiology taping also increases blood flow and lymphatic drainage, encouraging the body to heal naturally. When applied accurately, kinesiology tape lifts the skin and creates a very small space in between the muscle and the layer of skin. This space, although small, allows for improved drainage and blood flow and also takes the pressure off of swollen or injured muscles. Finally, kinesiology tape is thought to assist in inhibiting the pain receptors in the muscles, joints and skin.
